ASTRONAUTS

As an introduction to the unit, rather than jumping into the structure of the universe, the curriculum wants the students to understand what an astronaut goes through when they are in space. This lesson is intended to allow students to understand the differences that a human goes through on Earth vs Space.

My Project: Intro

THE LESSON

  • Begin with a brainstorm discussion - asking "What things can you think of that are different in space than on Earth?" It is important to note that this is NOT the time to correct misconceptions.

  • Once students have completed their own prior knowledge of how astronauts are able to meet their basic needs then it is time to reinforce this by using the web

Students will then proceed to watch a video from :

  • Writers Journal - Describe how astronauts are able to meet their basic needs in space. Remember to remind students that they should be including their original thoughts and how it has changed because of this lesson.
